Linthicum Heights is located in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. Known for its direct location to the BWI Airport and the Patapsco River, this community also provides ample housing choices, train and bus services and located within close distance to Maryland’s largest mall.

Located Directly North of BWI

Linthicum Heights is belted by the Baltimore-Washington International Airport to the south, I-195 and Route 295 to the west, The Patapsco River to the north and I-695 to the east. Patapsco and Elkridge border the community to the west, to the south past BWI is Severn and Glen Burni, and to the east is Pumphrey and later Brooklyn Park, while Halethorpe is to the north. Downtown Baltimore is also a short drive away.

Named for Abner Linthicum

The community’s name was from the area’s primary land-owning family since an 1801 purchase by Abner Linthicum. As a developed community, Linthicum began with the 1908 founding of the Linthicum Heights Company, though a Linthicum station on the 1887 Annapolis and Baltimore Short Line railroad existed at least as early as 1889. The Linthicum Heights Historic District is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Surrounding the intersection of Route 170 and Maple Road, this area consists of a suburban community situated on a series of low hills about 3 miles south of the Patapsco River.

MTA & Other Forms of Transportation

The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) Light Rail provides three stops in the Linthicum area: Nursery Road, North Linthicum and Linthicum. BWI Airport also provides a line that will take passengers to Concourse E. The BWI Airport is one of three major airports serving the metropolitan area, and provides rail service via MARC as well. Located southwest of the community, the BWI MARC Rail Station provides direct access to Baltimore and Washington, DC. There are several reliable routes within Linthicum. I-195 northbound will take you to the University of Maryland; Route 295 driving southbound will take you near Arundel Mills while driving north can take you into downtown Baltimore. Other routes include I-895, I-97 and I-695.

Housing Stock

The housing available in the Linthicum Heights area is well diversified. Secluded areas can offer beautifully landscaped yards that might come with patios or porches which offer some relaxing cookouts. Apartment buildings are also common throughout the urban areas. Some of the more popular architectural styles include colonial, split-level, contemporary and cape cods. Within the historic district you can find bungalows, Tudor revivals and Dutch revivals.

Entertainment & the Best Restaurants

G & M is a casual seafood restaurant located on North Hammonds Ferry Road. This eatery is known for their generously sized crab cakes, and serving some delicious dishes that includes seafood, steak, and pasta. Olive Grove Restaurant is another fabulous spot for crab cakes. Located just down the street from G & M, this restaurant however is mostly known for being a simple, family-friendly spot offering straightforward Italian food. Snyder’s Willow Grove and Carmelo’s Italian are other restaurants worth mentioning. The area of Linthicum Heights’s only form of entertainment is Hoyts Cinema 14. However, if you’re willing to travel, drive southbound on Route 295 and you will reach Arundel Mills.

This amazing mall features shopping destinations like Burlington Coat Factory, Nike Factory Store, Ann Taylor, H&M, and Nine West among others. In addition to the many shopping locations, this mall also features a Dave & Buster’s, a Medieval Times dinner theater, Maryland Live! Casino and an Egyptian-themed 24-screen megaplex theater. The movie theater was the only outlet of its Muvico chain in the state of Maryland before being sold to Cinemark in 2009. The mall also includes Rams Head Center Stage—a concert venue located in the center of the casino. Notable restaurants located here include Bobby’s Burger Palace, The Cheesecake Factory, Luk Fu and DuClaw Brewing Co.

Parks & Museums

The National Electronics Museum is located on West Nursery Road and also includes a library. This museum houses exhibits containing assortments of telegraphs, radios, radars, satellites, while also providing hands-on displays. The exhibits within the museum include 12 galleries ranging from the Cold War Radar Gallery to Electro-optical Gallery which focuses on infrared versus visual. The library serves as a research center open to the public. In addition, an amateur radio station is broadcasted live from the museum each week. The William P. Didusch Center for Urologic History serves as another museum and the headquarters of the American Urological Association. The museum provides 300 years of the history of urology, beginning from early and extremely dangerous kidney stone surgeries to modern ultrasound treatments.  

One of the best local parks in the Linthicum area is Andover Park. Located next to Lindale middle school, this park features an abundance of recreational opportunities that include 6 baseball fields, a multi-purpose field, a paved trail and a picnicking area. The Patapsco River and the Patapsco Valley State Park are located directly north of the neighborhood and provide ample of water and land-sport activities as well.

Linthicum Heights is in a wonderful location that allows residents to have direct access to an airport, the state’s largest shopping mall and the Patapsco River. Residents can also enjoy some amazing local museums and parks while still being surrounded by a serene neighborhood.
